Karinga sits in Kiambu, the highest-producing coffee region in Kenya, where cool highland air and red volcanic soil suit coffee growing. The factory has run since 1983 and is operated by the Gitwe Farmers Cooperative Society for around 650 members, who farm coffee alongside other crops on plots of about a hectare.
Every cherry reaches Karinga the same day it’s picked, then is depulped, fermented for 12 to 24 hours, washed four times and dried on raised beds for 8 to 13 days. That is more washing than is typical for Kenyan factories.
Coffee competes with tea for land in Kiambu, and Coffee Management Services has been brought in to lift output. The cooperative’s committee sources seed and seedlings from the Coffee Research Center, advises on fertiliser, and visits farms to check coffee isn’t being crowded out by crops like beans and corn.
This is an AB microlot, traceable to the Karinga factory. In the cup: blackberry, lime and caramel, with a juicy acidity and mellow sweetness.

Shipping
We roast on Monday and pack orders on Tuesday. Orders are shipped any day if stock is available. If your order is placed after 7am Monday we cannot guarantee that we will have stock available. In this case, the coffee will be sent the following Tuesday.
Local Pickup
Instructions will be sent via email when you place your order. You will be notified when your coffee is ready for pickup, it is available to pickup 24/7. Please ensure you double check your name and order number before taking your order from the shelf.
