Doris Maria Cacais is a coffee producer today because of the love for coffee that she inherited from her parents when they produced coffee in the municipality of Chaparral. Her father taught her many things about coffee and how to process it, but she considers that the most important thing that he taught her was to love the product and the process. Then, Doris got married and together with her husband they decided to start producing coffee and with lots of effort, they were able to buy a piece of land close to Ibague, the main city of the department of Tolima. Doris' husband sadly passed away a couple of years ago, and she is now working on the farm with her son, who despite having his own separate farm, he is still helping his mother in the daily activities of the farm and production. Finca los Aguacates is now a united family business. Doris takes care of the home activities, such as cooking and cleaning and she's in charge of the farm management, keeping track of the farm activities and paying to the workers. Her two daughters help with the pickings and harvesting.
In 2016 Doris and her family decided to start producing specialty coffee. "My main motivation for this was to learn to produce a better coffee, giving myself the opportunity to learn something every day since I produce specialty coffee. And I've had many changes in my home because I have a better price, and that gives me a better quality of life." Said Doris. Doris is extremely proud of her farm because she knows is the fruit of all the efforts of her husband and her and she's happy to see how it has evolved and the coffee that it's able to produce. For her, the family is the most important thing, the best thing that can ever happen to her is to share quality time with her family on the farm and for her to see that they have a beautiful, united relationship.
