Inzá is a municipality located in a sacred valley that sits below the mountains that separate Huila and Cauca. More than 14 centuries of native indigenous history and tradition make Inzá one of Colombia’s richest archaeological treasures. It is even home to the archaeological park Tierradentro. These indigenous cultures chose Inza as their home because it is a region where more than 5 different rivers converge.
This fertile land is home to the Tunubala family, Carlos Enrique, his wife, Dora Mireya, and his father Hermides Tunubala. Carlos Enrique is a second-generation coffee farmer who learned most of what he knows from his father’s extensive experience of over 30 years. However, coffee growers in this area used to just sell their coffee to intermediaries, who blended it and sold it without traceability or premiums. Due to these practices in the past there was no incentive to produce high quality coffee. However, today, with the education provided by Caravela, there is an incentive to produce coffee with better quality, the Tunubala family now receives higher incomes and recognition for their hard work on every lot delivered.
Finca Los Naranjos has only 2 hectares of coffee, grown with Bourbon, Tabi, and a very old Typica. With the passing of time a unique hybrid formed from these old Typica trees, making this coffee particularly complex with tropical fruits and jam notes and a long-lasting sweetness.
